Abstract

The integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the Library and Information Science (LIS) curriculum is essential for preparing future LIS professionals to contribute effectively to sustainable development of the society. Libraries play a vital role in promoting sustainability through knowledge dissemination, equitable access to information, and community engagement. This study examines the significance of incorporating concept of SDGs within LIS education, highlighting how it can enhance the role of libraries in achieving the Global Goals. Expected outcomes of this integration include increased awareness among LIS graduates about sustainability, improved library services aligned with SDG objectives, and stronger collaboration between LIS institutions and sustainability-driven organizations. By equipping students with relevant skills and knowledge, LIS education can empower future professionals to support sustainable practices in information management, library operation, and policy development. This study concludes with suggestions for Curriculum Development members, policymakers, educators, and LIS professionals to enhance curriculum design, ensuring that LIS education not only meets academic and professional standards but also actively contributes to societal needs with a sense of social responsibility to achieve the goals of the United Nations for global sustainable development.
